The report supports your records; it does not replace purchase evidence, tax certificates or professional advice. On purchase, only report data is transmitted, not your full transaction history.
Exempting €10,000 of gains can avoid up to €1,000 of future tax before costs. The report costs €19; your actual benefit depends on your circumstances and a later sale.

A reset means selling an investment and immediately buying it back. This realises the gain within your available exemption and raises the acquisition basis for a future sale. FIFO uses the oldest lots of the same security in the same account first.
The estimated benefit is 10% of the exempt gain. It must exceed TOB on both trades, broker fees and any spread. This is neither a guaranteed saving nor personalised trading advice.
| Example | Gain | Benefit¹ | TOB × 2 | Fees × 2 | Net¹ |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SharesPositive | €8,000 | €800 | €140 | €6 | €654 |
| Accumulating ETFNot worthwhile | €3,000 | €300 | €528 | €6 | -€234 |
| Distributing ETFPositive | €3,000 | €300 | €48 | €6 | €246 |
Each example: €20,000 sale and repurchase, sufficient remaining exemption, €3 broker fee per trade, unchanged price and no spread. ¹ Estimated future tax reduction; net before the €19 report price.
Assumed TOB: shares 0.35% (€1,600 cap), distributing funds/bonds 0.12% (€1,300), accumulating funds 1.32% (€4,000), per transaction. ETF treatment also depends on registration and legal form: confirm your ISIN’s rate with your broker.
Using everything may not be best. FPS Finance says the unused first €1,000 band can be carried forward, up to a total €15,000 exemption after five years. A €200 realised gain leaves €800 to carry forward; simply leaving €1,000 of the full €10,000 unused does not automatically qualify.
Plan trades before the final trading day of 2026. Check the market calendar, order cut-offs and trade-date versus settlement-date treatment with your broker.

Frequently asked questions
From January 1, 2026, you pay 10% tax in Belgium on realized gains from financial assets (stocks, bonds, ETFs, crypto). The first €10,000 per person per year is exempt.
You pay no tax on the first €10,000 of gains per year. Only the unused part of the first €1,000 band carries forward: for example, €200 of gains leaves €800 to carry forward. Carry-forward lasts up to 5 years, with a maximum total exemption of €15,000.
If you still have exemption left at the end of 2026, you lose it for this year. By strategically selling positions with gains before December 31, you optimally use your exemption and save on taxes.
Foreign brokers do not withhold Belgian capital gains tax. You must declare your gains yourself in your tax return and can apply the exemption there.
For positions purchased before 2026, the tax office uses the value on December 31, 2025 as the base. Gains made before that date are therefore exempt. Until the end of 2030, you can choose the original purchase price if it's higher (with proof).
Calculations run in your browser. If you order a report, your computed summary (not your transaction file) is sent to us to generate and email your PDF. The summary is deleted after 30 days. Stripe processes your payment.
A free calculator helps estimate your tax. The €19 report brings together a sell plan by lot and account, your reference values, TOB, broker fees and the exemption carry-forward trade-off in one PDF. Results depend on your inputs. Keep original supporting documents too; the report is not tax advice.
